Bus-on-shoulder transit lanes on Highway 99
The Province is extending the bus-on-shoulder transit lanes on Highway 99 to make trips by transit quicker and more reliable in advance of construction of the Fraser River Tunnel Project. Bus-on-shoulder means that transit buses use the shoulders along designated areas of highways to travel. Once completed, buses will travel in their own area of the road and avoid traffic congestion from Ladner Trunk Road all the way to Highway 17A. These lanes will also tie into the new tunnel to improve overall public-transit reliability.
Work on this $12.8-million project is expected to finish in summer 2023. Grading, drainage, paving, and electrical work along Highway 99 will continue until the project ends.
